Sex Scenes in Movie - It was a pretty great year for sex in cinema, with some of the world’s hottest actresses getting down and dirty. In this feature, we’ll share the ten that got the most attention from us this past year. Some are quirky, some are funny, and some are just downright sexy. Grab your popcorn and let’s go.
01. Blue Is the Warmest Color
Lesbian sex has been used to titillate male moviegoers for decades, but few films handled it as ably — or as graphically — as Abdellatif Kechiche’s "Blue Is the Warmest Color." Based on a French comic book — excuse me, “graphic novel” — the film chronicles the relationship of two young lesbians as they grow into adulthood and fall in and out of love. With a solid seven minutes of extremely explicit action, it drew both raves and controversy from moviegoers. Both lead actresses have described Kechiche’s on-set behavior as “horrible” and pledged to never work with him again, which is interesting.
02. Spring Breakers
Harmony Korine’s neon-soaked tale of four former Disney princesses gone wild in St. Pete was quite an unholy mess, but it did bring us a pool-bound threesome between Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens and James Franco as the bizarre meth-dealing “Alien.” This scene makes the list because it has the same hyper-cartoon grunge as the rest of the movie, perfectly illustrating how it feels to get it on with a stranger while doped up on unknown pleasures. There’s talk that the studio is trying to get Franco an Oscar nomination, which would be hilarious.
03. The Canyons
People have been aching to see Lindsay Lohan go all the way on film for quite some time, even after her laughable amputee sex scene in "I Know Who Killed Me." They got their wish with "The Canyons," a bizarre Kickstarter-funded feature from writer Bret Easton Ellis and director Paul Schrader. Lohan, cast opposite adult movie star James Deen, gets involved in a love triangle that goes wildly out of control, but not before the flick’s four main players all get down and dirty in a surprisingly explicit orgy sequence.
04. The Counselor
It’s 2013, so we’re pretty weird when it comes to sex. One of the most bizarre yet strangely arousing sex scenes of the year in cinema came in "The Counselor," Ridley Scott’s oddball crime drama. Cameron Diaz has a toothy role as Malkina, the girlfriend of a mob boss played by Javier Bardem. Her standout scene comes when she essentially makes love to Bardem’s Ferrari California HS with him sitting stunned in the driver’s seat. Normally a woman-car pairing wouldn’t work, but Diaz gets so intensely into it that it manages to be disturbingly erotic.
05. Afternoon Delight
When a suburban housewife played by Kathryn Hahn gets bored with her dull marriage, she ends up hiring a stripper played by Juno Temple to work as her live-in nanny. Of course, this throws all manner of wrenches into things, but there’s plenty of good sex along the way. About halfway through the flick, Temple meets up with a sleazy old dude to have sex and makes Hahn watch, and it’s an excellent scene with the perfect mixture of eroticism and weirdness. Temple is quickly becoming one of our favorite unconventional movie beauties
06. The Look of Love
Paul Raymond was the UK’s answer to Hugh Hefner, spreading the gospel of naked lady flesh far and wide. 2013 biopic "The Look of Love" stars Steve Coogan as Raymond and the flick is stuffed to the gills with gorgeous girls. Probably the best sex scene happens about an hour into the movie, when the bodacious Tamsin Egerton gets busy with three other girls in a coke-driven quartet of sexual debauchery. If you’re a fan of classic '70s-style disco bush — this is the movie for you.
07. Trance
Danny Boyle’s bizarre, hallucinogenic psychological thriller stars James McAvoy as an art auctioneer who gets amnesia and turns to hypnotherapy to figure out the truth behind a bizarre crime. The always-fetching Rosario Dawson, who happens to be working with the thieves, plays the hypnotherapist. Part of her seriously unconventional therapy is having sex with her client, and the scene is both very hot and also a little disorienting, much like the rest of the movie. 08. The Lifeguard
Kristen Bell is a go-to talent for sex scenes that are both hot and funny. Who could forget her working over Russell Brand in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"? However, her role in the indie flick "The Lifeguard" ramped up the sexiness. Bell plays a woman who moves back to her hometown and takes a job at a swimming pool while she tries to piece her life together. Unfortunately, she gets involved with a local teen, played by David Lambert, and things get weird. The clip, which features Bell getting some on a bathroom sink, is very hot and believable.
09. Sweetwater
Bizarre revenge fantasy Western "Sweetwater" got press because "Mad Men" star January Jones went topless in it (for a shootout at the end), but for our money the real sexual star of the flick was curvy actress Jiji Hise, who plays Gretchen. About a half hour into the film, Hise has a sex scene with Jason Isaacs that’s as enthusiastic as they come, with her very nice breasts providing a lovely spectacle as he works away. Hise is a newcomer to the acting game, but she certainly has a lot of potential.
10. Don Jon
You have to give Joseph Gordon-Levitt credit — for his directing debut, he cast himself as an Italian-American gigolo who gets to have sex up against a wall with Scarlett Johansson. While Jon is used to the hookup lifestyle, Scarlett’s character Barbara insists on a more traditional courtship, which ratchets up the sexual tension until she finally gives in. It’s a painfully hot scene, even though Barbara doesn’t even take her pants off. Of course, things go wrong soon afterwards, but the coitus is absolutely top-notch.
